Shine in Shore Style this Season...

April signals Autumn, and invariably it’s a time to take a look into the wardrobe for what to wear for the months ahead as the temperature cools. I’m excited this month to introduce our first on-location fashion shoot in Channel. We’re delighted to have recently welcomed an experienced fashion director to our small team, Claudia Renford, who has gained a wealth of editorial experience on many magazines in Australia, the UK and New Zealand before making the Shore her home.
Claudia is keen to capitalise on the many interesting and naturally beautiful locations here to highlight products available right here on the Shore, home to an ever-growing local fashion scene. Using locally sourced clothing, and shot by local photographer Lisa Hooley, Claudia has created some stunning autumn/winter fashion images shot in Milford for this issue.
I met young writing phenomenon Ben Sanders ahead of this issue, on a glorious March morning on Takapuna Beach to chat about his upcoming novel, the film rights to which have already been sold to Hollywood, with Bradley Cooper to play the lead. Ben was an AIMES Emerging Talent Awards winner in 2012 and used the prize funds he received to pay for a trip to New York to go in search of a big book deal. He got one. And a movie deal. With an A-list celebrity actor to star in and produce it. Not bad going. I hope you enjoy reading about this talented ‘Shore boy’, a great example of a ‘Kiwi kid’ with a ‘can-do attitude’ making his mark on
the world.
Another young local talent to be getting plenty of airtime on television is former Rangitoto College pupil Mike Lee. Our young writer, a current Rangitoto College student, Anna Henvest met former New Zealand Masterchef contestant and TV presenter Mike in late March to discuss his life on and offscreen.
We’ve got quality content from some of Auckland’s, and indeed New Zealand’s, foremost professionals in their fields. I enjoyed reading John Appleton’s take on the causes of cancer, Dr Cherye Roche’s discussion of joint pain, and Matt Bellingham’s look at the concept of crowd-funding. There are some neat tips on transforming your home to reflect the change of season, as well as school holiday ideas, Easter treats, and more.
There will be Royal visitors to our shores this month. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George land in New Zealand on the 7th and have a comprehensive tour of the country planned. The North Shore sadly doesn’t appear to be on their itinerary and we think they’re missing out! If ever there was a place fit for a king...and local Lorde’s biggest hit song would make the perfect soundtrack to their trip.

Wishing you a Happy Easter this April on the Shore.
