Art and Eats- Recharge at Antidote!

A community hub in central Takapuna is putting art and heart into the suburb. It’s not only the food that’s made with love at Antidote on Como Street. Here is a creative centre where art, and yoga, and pre-loved homewares all meet, beside a colourful, flavoursome food selection.

The brainchild of local Takapuna resident Julie Gibbs who, with her hip and helpful team, is adding huge value to the trip to the cafe, and creating a food / art fusion spot here on the Shore. Cabinets are packed with colour - salads, frittatas, quiches, slices - but with a natural, wholesome quality, as befits Antidote’s slogan: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind - We’re Working On It.

Gluten-free, paleo and lactose-free options are readily available and Antidote also offers a superb range of take home dinner meals to freeze and / or easily heat and eat at home. The many juices they offer will only get more and more popular as the warmer months increase; PHD cleanse and other juices are perfect for spring detoxing.

Between eating and drinking, customers can peruse the eclectic mix of gifts and homewares; recycled, pre-loved treasures.

Upstairs is where art happens, and yoga, and a multitude of other creative pursuits. ‘Make images, make friends,’ they say at Antidote of the community arts classes that run seven times a week. Local artist Rob Campion facilitates sessions on Monday evenings 7-9pm as well as morning classes during the week and on Saturdays.

Studio space upstairs can be rented to anyone wanting a bright, quiet place to work or create. Several rooms are available to rent by the hour, day, week or longer term - perfect for self-employed locals or those working on projects that require some alone time in a central, inspiring setting.

Or get active upstairs and power up your day with Power Flow Yoga, every morning from 6.30-7.30am, for just $10 per session. Tuesday evenings are for Vinyasa Yoga from 7-8.30pm and, on Sundays, there is a double dose of yoga in the form of Duo Yoga from 2.30-4pm (bring a friend or partner for some fun work in pairs) and the fascinating-sounding AcroYoga Jam from 4.30-6.30pm.

Julie Gibbs said: “We don’t fit into any neat box and we don’t mind it.  Generosity of spirit is fundamental to who we are. Come to Antidote and we’ll do our best to make sure you enjoy the experience!”
