We had a great programme last holidays with several popular days including Onesie Wednesday where over 100 kids and staff wore their onesies for a warm day of play on the inflatables in the stadium. The 8-10 year old programme kids also loved getting back to basics at Indoor Camping where they got to build a huge tent out of sheets in the stadium – a great rainy day activity!
We are looking forward to the October Holidays and highly recommend booking early to avoid disappointment on popular days like Rainbows End and Gym & Circus. Last year the first week of October had sold out two weeks before the programme started! Bookings can be made online at www.ymcaauckland.org.nz or at the centre.

In June, 25 high school students from a mix of North Shore high schools met at YMCA North Shore to audition for the Volume project, with members of the North Shore Raise Up crew judging and providing an audience.
Of the 25, 12 were chosen to go through to the Volume project, the opportunity to collaborate with likeminded musicians over 13 weeks, with the end result being an album release show and live performance on September 18.
Auckland musician, producer and songwriter Tom Healy leads the song writing workshops every Monday night, with assistance from North Shore Raise Up coordinator and musician Nick Douch.
The group touch on different aspects of song writing each week by listening to and discussing different pieces of music, as well as working on their own music individually and in groups.
Early September will see the group record 10 of the songs they have written at The Lab studios in Mt Eden. For most of the students this will be their first experience in a professional recording studio.
The big Volume 2014 Finale will be in the form of a live concert at The Vic Theatre in Devonport on Thursday September 18, with tickets on sale through the venue early September.
Students Involved in 2014 are:
Edie Brennan, Hori Te Tai, Isaac Kelly, James Carrera-Sargant, Jessica Rogers, Laura Mahoney, Lilli Davies, Mia Kingsley Smith, Nake Matekohi, Tammy Jenna, Te Ruki Dunn, and Zac Cope
