Successful School Sees Dollar Signs!
Children and staff at Belmont Primary School are celebrating being ‘in the money’ after success in Shore City’s recent Dollars for Schools promotion. Shore City, the shopping centre in Takapuna, offered a generous sum of $25,000 to be shared by five local schools, with all 38 schools within 7kms of Shore City invited to apply.
Principal of Belmont Primary School, Bruce Cunningham was delighted to discover his school then topped the list of five finalists during the second part of the promotion, which involved shoppers quoting a school when shopping at Shore City. Bruce said: “We are very, very lucky to have such strong community support here at Belmont Primary, which enabled us to achieve this. It’s a very, very generous of Shore City to put up this money for local schools to benefit. We were absolutely delighted to hear we’d won over $11,000 for the school!”
Mr Cunningham said he didn’t want the winnings - $11,941 to be exact - simply to be added to the school’s funding ‘pot’. He explained that they would do something ‘visible’ with the funding for all to see, such as transforming an under-used outdoor space with new outdoor furniture or playing surface.
Shore City Marketing Manager Anna Gervai said the promotion had been a huge success. She said: “I’m delighted that Shore City is able to make a difference in the community here on the Shore. Belmont Primary performed extremely well in the competition and are very worthy winners of the lion’s share of the funds.”
The school secured a massive 47.8% of the total prize money thanks to parents shopping at Shore City and choosing to support Belmont. Each of the five schools received a share of the $25,000, based on how supportive parents and the local community were during the promotion.
