Takapuna News this MAY
This monthly round up of Takapuna community news is contributed by Rachael Bro, Takapuna North Community Co-ordinator.
Hello again, North Shore. I have been privileged to be working with a great team of enthusiastic people on the youth Converge event dedicated to up-skilling our future leaders from high schools across the North Shore. Over 100 students registered and attended a choice of workshops including communication, project planning, team building, idea formation, marketing and social media, communication skills and public speaking. I am looking forward to getting to know more local young people and hope to work with some of them on a future project. This event was proudly supported by Auckland Council, Kaipaitiki Local Board, Devonport Community Trust, Zeal and YouthWorx.

Over 53 Takapuna residents registered to hold Neighbours Day events during the last weekend of March. Here's a picture of Neighbours Day activities. Those pictured received a goodie bag kindly supported by Auckland Council, Takapuna North Community Trust and Takapuna Countdown.
Intergenerational Dialogue – Mixed Age Discussion
Intergenerational Dialogue is a meeting of minds of older adults and youth to discuss topical issues and consider possible solutions. Facilitators encourage an environment for all participants to contribute their ideas and viewpoints on a wide range of topics provided by various community organisations including drinking, housing, freedom and technology. Discussions are transcribed and provided to the organisations contributing topics. A copy is also provided to participating schools.
Timed to coincide with youth week, the event is based on a successful event held in Takapuna last year where participants suggested it become an annual event.
This year the event will be held:
Thursday 22 May
11.30 – 3.30pm
The Channel View lounge
Mary Thomas building
3 Gibbons Road,
Anyone interested in facilitating, participating or providing a topical issue to discuss is encouraged to contact Rachael Bro on 486 2098 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
(Students please ensure permission by parents and teachers to attend. Please note, this activity is open to any secondary student from in the Takapuna-Devonport local board area.)
The Intergenerational Dialogue is a collaboration between Auckland Council, Takapuna North Community Trust, Safer North, North Shore Community Social Services, Older Women’s Network, Devonport Peninsula Trust, YouthWorx, the Devonport-Takapuna Youth Board, and community organisations with an interest in fostering positive relationships between younger and older people.
I continue to look forward to getting to know more people and be inspired by the knowledge and activity in our community.
