Lake House Arts Centre: News
School Holiday Fun!
With Easter and the School Holidays just around the corner, now is a great time to get your children’s holiday activities sorted. Our children's school holiday programme offers a range of classes with experienced tutors and a large variety of mediums for kids
aged 5-14 years.
In week one, our new tutor and children’s book illustrator, Kirsten Richards, is running a full day class where you will draw, colour, paint and collage to create silly, scary, quirky creatures and bind them into a book.
Older children will enjoy hanging out in a real printmakers studio for two days and learning all about the techniques, processes and equipment used in Collograph and Monoprint printmaking from Erinna Law. In week two, all your favourite tutors, Bill Hayes, Kim Randall, Andrea Bruek, Eion Bryant and Denice Symons are offering ceramics sculpture classes, painting and drawing. Check out the full descriptions of the classes and timetable on our website: www.lakehousearts.org.nz.

Recently graduated from Unitec with a Bachelor of Design and Visual Arts, Jim Overall’s paintings explore compositional ideas using a limited or monochromatic palette. Jim uses experiments in composition to explore the potential of these limited palettes. Blues and Greys characteristically preside over warmer colors. As well as monochromatic palettes, Jim tries to pare down his subject matter to only the absolute essentials. He said: “I prefer an uncluttered, unconfused setting, for a reflective ‘atoneness’ with the painting.”
A collaboration of three local artists, Fiona Christie, Pat Backley and Roz Innes. Each from different countries, Scotland, South Africa and New Zealand, they have an individual style and bring together their passion for art in this exhibition of ‘Holiday Memories’.
For those of you who are mad about stitch, keep an eye out for the Auckland Quilt Guild Exhibition at the very end of April. Always popular, the year’s theme for the Dorothy Collard challenge is “The Space Between”.
