Devonport Community News this February!

Happy New Year! I hope you have had a great start to 2014.
Devonport has been humming with lots of visitors in the area and our preschool play mornings in Devonport and Bayswater are being well received!
The Devonport sessions are held at Windsor Reserve (Devonport waterfront) on Tuesday mornings from 9:30am to 11:00am and the Bayswater sessions are held at Bayswater Park on Thursdays from 9:30am-11:00am. There is no need to pre-book or register, just come along and have fun with your littlies at these free events. It’s a great opportunity for both children and adults to meet like-minded people and enjoy the wonderful parks at our doorstep.
Our Kids Athletics series starts this month. The series is run over four consecutive Wednesdays with the first session being on Wednesday 19th of February, 4pm-6pm at the Vauxhall Rd Sports Reserve in Devonport (by the Rugby Club). Kids Athletics is promoted as ‘have a go’ athletics and is aimed at primary and intermediate school aged kids. Activities include running races, long jump, high jump, shot put and agility games. Participants need to register on arrival at each session and kids are reminded to please bring a hat and water bottle. All sessions are free.
Devonport Folk Club are once again organising Folk in the Park, another free event, which will be held on Sunday 23rd February, 1pm-4pm at the Band Rotunda, Windsor Reserve. The Folk Club have a great line-up of folk musicians and performers planned and there will be yummy food and drink for sale. It’s a great way to spend a summer’s afternoon – lazing in the shade with a picnic and listening to some of the best folk musicians around. There will also be a free preschool play area to keep the little ones entertained.
Sunday the 2nd of March is National Children’s Day and also when the annual Devonport Community Treasure Hunt is held. Now in its 5th year, the Treasure Hunt is a great way for families to spend some quality time together exploring the treasures of our community by foot or bike. This year we have an art trail theme planned. Children and their families will learn about different art forms and enjoy some fun activities along the way, finishing at Devonport Museum on Mt Cambria Reserve for a sausage sizzle, games and spot prizes. Free registration is from 10am at Windsor Reserve.
That’s all from me this time.
