Shore City: Poncho

Go Mexicana at Poncho!

A hearty plate of nachos topped with succulent chicken breast, guacamole, salsa, baby cos lettuce, sour cream and heaps of cheese is enough to feed the heartiest appetite whilst out shopping. This food is filling, flavoursome and looks fabulous. And it's being served to visitors to the stylish Shore City in Takapuna, courtesy of the centre’s newest addition, Poncho.

Friendly and fashionable local couple Sean and Forough Soltani have brought their love of Mexican cuisine to the heart of Takapuna in this, the second of their food outlets in Shore City. The owners of Olives Kebabs in the centre of the food court, have just opened the latest fruit of their labour and are rightfully proud of what they have achieved.

Smartly dressed Sean and Forough were all smiles when Channel met up with them ahead of this issue. Experienced chef and hospitality businessman Sean said: “We are really pleased to open Poncho here. We love Mexican food and have run a previous Mexican food business. We like making Mexican food the old-fashioned way.”
Large portions of quality fare are offered at very reasonable prices. The huge nachos dish, with a base of either chicken or beef costs just $11. And it’s a full dinner-sized amount of food - no miniature burritos here.
The pair are keen that diners unaccustomed to Mexican food are not put off by pre-conceptions about the spicy heat of the South American dishes. “We make our dishes as spicy or as mild as people like them. Mexican food doesn’t have to be all about being hot!”
Based in Takapuna, Sean and Forough are of Iranian origin, but are loving living and working on the Shore and have been in New Zealand for over 10 years. They have a ‘super cute’ 18-month-old daughter Surin who keeps the pair busy outside of work.
Channel loves to support local people in local business, so its not only for their fabulous - and fairly priced - food that we heartily recommend Poncho as a satisfying stop-off on your next trip to Shore City, whether shopping or not.

Poncho, Lower Level, Shore City, Cnr Lake Road and Como St, Takapuna.
Open seven days, 9am to 6pm, 9am to 9pm Thursdays.
