New Takapuna North Community Co-ordinator
Returning North Shore resident, Rachael Bro, is excited to be taking on the role of the new Takapuna North Community Co-ordinator.
Having been created eight years ago, the Takapuna North ‘Co-co’ role liaises with the community to determine what they would like for their area and assists community members to realise their visions for the district. Rachael held a similar role in the Sport, Recreation, Arts and Leisure arena for the similarly sized Upper Hutt City. This involved working with schools, health and community organisations, the local Marae, elderly and youths to advocate and promote their varying needs. She also managed funding schemes, and secured funding for and delivered many annual local events.
Local mum Rachael said: “I am really happy to be back in New Zealand after four years in Australia and I am eager to fully participate in the community. I am really looking forward to meeting as many local residents as I can and hearing their ideas and concerns for our great locality and discussing what can we do about these.”
The Takapuna North Trust, which secured Auckland Council funding for a Community Co-ordinator for the Takapuna North area, have been tending the role’s outcomes while seeking the new Co-ordinator. During this time, the Takapuna North Board Trustees have revitalised their vision and members in preparation for a fresh, new drive to assist the Community Co-ordinator in helping these communities’ develop their voices and realise outcomes.
The Takapuna North area includes Takapuna, Sunnynook, Milford, Forest Hill, Campbells Bay and Castor Bay. Community Co-ordinators are also available in Devonport, Kaipatiki (Glenfield), Albany and East Coast Bays for the North Shore.
