Festive Season at Northart
Christmas is not too far away. For some, the lead up to the festive season is exhilarating and fun; for others sorting family, food and holidays, as well as choosing gifts that are both appropriate and affordable, is a bit of
Northart’s final two shows for the year can take away some of the stress. Certainly viewing the lovely works in the exhibitions will be a relaxing and pleasant experience, and the unique and handcrafted art works in the shows would make very special gifts for that special – or hard to buy for - person.
The Pre-Christmas $100 (or less) Show includes literally hundreds of high quality, mostly small items of art and craft – jewellery, textile and fibre work, prints, paintings, decorative and functional pottery, knitted and sewn baby clothes, cards and handmade books – all at a cost of $100 or less. A myriad of items to choose from. And to make life easier, it is a cash and carry show, so once you have purchased a work you take it away with you. Displays are replenished daily – so making a second, third or even fourth visit is well worthwhile.
DSW: Domestic Sized Works is for those whose budgets are a little more expansive. Paintings by such well-known local artists as Ross Ritchie, Margaret Lawlor-Bartlett, Lindsey Kirk, Garry Currin and Karl Amundsen, machine embroidered pieces by Freda Brierley which are based on famous images by nineteenth century masters, and ceramics by Julie Collis. There are some real treasures – perfect as gifts or treats for oneself!
The gallery is open daily 10am – 4pm and the exhibitions continue until 12 noon on Wednesday 18 December, when we close for the holiday season. We have had a great year and look forward to seeing you in the gallery this month and again when we reopen on Tuesday 29 January. Have a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
