Devonport Community News this December/January period!

Ngataringa Skate Day held on 16th November, was a great success!  The idea behind this event was to encourage younger kids and girls to take part as well.  Not only were we able to run our first ever primary aged kids (Groms) and girls sections, but Cheapskates Takapuna, who manage the skate comp for us, reported many more entries across all categories.
There was some fantastic talent on display with regionally and nationally recognised skaters taking part.  We are very grateful to Cheapskates Takapuna for running a fantastic skate boarding competition, to Devonport Peninsula Trust and Devonport-Takapuna Local Board and once again Devonport Rotary who helped by providing some much-needed manpower during set up and pack up.  We also introduced a photo competition as part of this event and have received some great entries already.  The winning photos will be published right here in Channel Magazine!  Due to time constraints, we will not be able to judge the photos in time to be included in this issue of Channel Magazine, so watch out for those top shots in the February issue!
We have more great events coming up.  The Devonport Lions Santa Parade and Christmas Festival will have been held by the time Channel Magazine is issued.  We have a great Christmas Festival planned this year with more activities for kids along with all the usual favourites.
On Sunday 15th December from 3pm-7pm in Windsor Reserve, Devonstock will be taking place.  We have an awesome line-up of free live music including Lightning on Me, These Guys, Razorback Ridge, Brendon Thomas and The Vibes, Exit 420 and Petra Bullock.  It’s an all ages, no alcohol event with great food and coffee or bring your own picnic and relax in the shade while you listen to the sounds of some great up-and-coming young talent.
Our preschool play mornings in Windsor Reserve on Tuesdays and Bayswater Park on Thursdays are full steam ahead and proving as popular as ever with children and caregivers alike.   The casual attendance, free entry sessions start at 9:30am and finish at 11am.  It’s a great way to meet like-minded people in your neighbourhood!  The sessions take a short break over the Christmas/New Year period breaking on 17th and 19th December respectively then recommencing on 14th and 16th of January 2014.
Wishing you all a safe and merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
