Devonport Community News this November!

It’s a busy month on Devonport peninsula with a plethora of events and activities coming up.

On Saturday 16th November, 12 noon to 3pm, we are holding the Ngataringa Skate Day at Ngataringa Park, Devonport.

This is a new skate boarding competition for Devonport, complementing our other long running skate boarding event, the Scotty Brewer Skate Day – this event will still be held in March 2014.  Ngataringa Skate Day was developed due to demand from skaters to have more skate boarding comps and earlier this year, we identified the need to have more comps for younger kids and girls.  Ngataringa Skate Day is open to all ages and the format will be very similar to Scotty Brewer Skate Day, but this time we hope to have enough girls and young kids enter so that we can have comps just for them!  Also, as an extra twist to the event, we are running a photo competition!  The winning photos will be published right here in Channel Magazine.  For more info about Ngataringa Skate Day visit: or ph: 445 9533.
November also means school fair season on Devonport peninsula – there are 3 great events for families to choose from.  First up is the St Leo’s Traditional Village Fair being held at St Leo’s School on Saturday 2 November, 11am-2pm.  There will be traditional village games, cakes, books, crafts and much more.  Next is Hauraki School’s Twilight Fair on Saturday 9th November, 4pm-8pm featuring live music, auctions and water activities to name a few.  Then for a change of pace on Sunday 24th November is Bayswater School’s Bayswater Kids Duathlon.  This is a running and cycling event for kids aged 7-13 years.  Competitors can either complete the event as a solo competitor or as a team of two.   Registration is from 7:30am on the day and events start at 9:45am.  Enrol online to secure your t-shirt at
Devonport Community House and Devonport Community Garden continue to provide great workshops for the community.  Devonport Community Garden is hosting a cheese making workshop on Saturday 23rd November, 10am-1:30pm at the Garden’s kitchen on Mt Cambria Reserve.  For more info phone: 427 6393 or email:  The Community House’s fun and interactive Baby Sitting Training for Teenagers workshop is being held on Saturday 30th November, 1pm-4pm, costing $25 per person.

That’s all I have room for this time.
