All Scream for Ice Cream!
Summer is just around the corner and with the school holidays upon us once again this month, ice-cream is set to become the treat of choice for children, young and old.
Who can resist the lure of a cool, refreshing and creamy ice-cream, shake or smoothie as the temperatures climb?
Wendy’s Supa Sundaes Milford has been feeding the Shore’s cravings for cool ice cream for over 20 years. The colourful selection of flavours is a treat for the eyes, as well as the taste buds.
Manager Claire Hu has been putting smiles on customers’ faces for over six years. She said: “Its good quality ice-cream that’s very tasty! I like all the flavours, and, in fact, all the products we sell.”
North Shore resident Claire lends her creative touch to the stunning ice cream birthday cakes offered at the Milford Shopping Centre store. She enjoys making all the cakes herself. There are colourful castle creations, multi-coloured polka-dot white chocolate treats and too many chocolate options to mention!
Wendy’s Shakes are also popular: Try the Supashakes or Megashakes in flavour such as Flakeshake, Crunchieshake and many more.
Hot dogs are also sold for those preferring a savoury option. Hit the mall this month for a sweet treat!

Church Community Benefits from BNZ
Bank staff swapped paperwork for papier mache last month to get stuck into community work for a good cause.
For their annual ‘Closed for Good’ day, BNZ staff venture out into the community to carry out voluntary work for grass roots organisations.
The team at BNZ Milford Shopping Centre shut their doors last month on Wednesday 4th September to head to Northcross Community Church for the day. Organised by the branch’s banking advisor Scott Justice, the staff helped out with preparations for the church’s ‘Light Party’ celebration to be held later this month. The event is the church’s alternative to the dark antics that traditionally accompany Halloween.
Scott said: “I think it’s an awesome idea. It makes us step outside our regular day to day activities in the banking environment to get involved in something community-focused, which is fantastic!”
Store manager at BNZ Milford Garth Reid said: “The day was enormously successful. It was a great opportunity to get people together from different areas of the BNZ family. We have already been invited back to the Light Party event itself and asked by the community church if we could continue to support them in the future. It’s all about us giving back to the community.”

Sleigh Bells Ring…?
Those sleigh bells can almost be heard above Milford Shopping Centre as the festive spirit begins to take hold once more at
The Homestore.
Every year, part of this stylish homeware shop is transformed into a winter wonderland. The Christmas Heirloom Company rings in the festive changes by bringing bundles of baubles, tinsel and reams of fairy lights to the Milford store.
The Homestore owner Barbara Beaumont is looking forward to the return of the festive sparkle. Canadian native Barbara has been in New Zealand for over 22 years and has owned the Milford store for the past six. Her enthusiasm for the shop’s renowned Christmas collections never wanes. She said: “We have so much stock coming in. It will be great to have the Christmas aspect back in store.”
Adding: “We are lucky to be in such a beautiful mall, where the decorations really are stunning at Christmas. It becomes a destination; people travel here in order to see the gorgeous decorations. People can pop into The Homestore to get inspiration!”
Not only do the colourful Christmas decorations land this month courtesy of Wendy Alexander and her team at The Christmas Heirloom Company, but The Homestore continues to offer its popular Wilton Cake Courses and cupcake decorating sessions.
Three instructors have been trained overseas by the illustrious Wilton company to provide regular courses in cake decorating. New classes beginning this month include a daytime class on Thursday 10th, 11am to 11pm, and an evening option that starts Thursday 17th October 6-8pm.
Store manager Lisa Gonzalez said: “Wilton offers high-end decorating products and our instructors have been formally trained by Wilton to deliver high quality workshops. There’s plenty to learn for the novice through to the expert!”
Every weekend cupcake decorating classes are held in the store. Customers can learn how to create such delights as Thomas the Tank Engine, as well as various cute animal creations such as hippos, sheep and lions. Bookings must be made for the sessions at least 48 hours in advance, with a $10 booking fee.
Proficient bakers and decorators can try their luck in the monthly cake competition, with a weekly winner collecting a $50 Homestore voucher top prize, $25 for the runner up. Enter by sending a photo of your cake creation to: homestore.milford@hotmail.com
From this month The Homestore also offers a great, easy-to-organise fund-raising opportunity to community groups, schools and charity organisations. The Christmas Heirloom Company offers festive decorating events for groups as a way of making money for their organisation. Learn how to create a Christmas wreath and centre piece, make fabulous bows and keep your fairy lights tangle-free, amongst other Christmassy tricks.
There is plenty to learn this month at The Homestore, so come on, step into Christmas!
