Top MC for 2013 AIMES Awards

The North Harbour Club's AIMES Awards are a fantastic contribution to young talent in our region. Many of our AIMES Awards winners have gone on to great heights in Business, the Arts, become Gold Medal Olympians and pillars of our community.

The actual awards night has grown over the last few years to include performances from some of our top winners – many of whom are now plying their trade overseas.

This year's event will be no exception. The talent coming back is phenomenal. It’s a high quality night and high quality nights need high quality steering the ship. The club has employed the Kiwi lad who last year became the Australian Event Awards Entertainer of the Year. Darryl Lovegrove, elder brother of Comedian Brendan will bring his immense talent and experience to the Bruce Mason Centre as the MC.
Darryl has received several performance awards including New Zealand's 'Rising Lisa Star' Award for his portrayal of Jesus in the Australian and New Zealand tours of Jesus Christ Superstar and an Australian MO Award nomination. Other career highlights include playing John Lennon in the New Zealand tour of Looking Through a Glass Onion; Les Miserables, Chess, and The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber alongside Sarah Brightman. Highly respected in the rock arena he has performed with original members of Split Enz and the NZ Symphony Orchestra and toured with rock legend Glenn Shorrock in "Let it Be", the music of Lennon & McCartney.
He also created the most successful Corporate Entertainment product the world has known – The Singing Waiters – that has now been performed nearly 10,000 times in 77 countries.
The Singing Waiters turned out to be big business. Darryl has since sold out, making an undisclosed amount from selling his half share – though it was enough to buy a lovely home for his wife and two young daughters in the desirable Sydney suburb of Seaforth and to keep them nicely since. And it hasn't stopped him telling his entrepreneurial story on the celebrity speakers circuit in Australia and New Zealand.
He’s excited about the evening and with a La Scala theme, we will undoubtably hear his vast repertoire from opera and musical theatre and sung with his trademark powerful voice, he will deliver a truly stand-out event.
