Choosing paint colours for your home can be an overwhelming task. What colour? Where to start? Amanda Neill, leading Auckland Interior Designer and Colour Consultant shares some of her knowledge to help you make your decision.
Colour is part of our everyday lives, it surrounds us, feeds us and nourishes our senses. Colour affects our minds, our bodies and environments and all of these change in response to colour. When it comes to choosing a colour to paint your home, either externally or internally, you have to think about how you want people to feel when they walk into the house / room. Colours can not only make a dramatic change to the appearance of the house or room but also change the mood and atmosphere.
Think about a jumping off point for your paint colour choice. What is the mood you are trying to create? Is there a colour you are naturally drawn to? Is the room dark or light filled? Do you have furniture or objects that the colour needs to work with? Once you have a starting point think about the flow of the rooms. Do you walk through the room to other rooms, does there need to be a connection between these rooms? Make sure you think about all of the surfaces on the house / room, not just the wall colours – doors, windows, ceilings, roof.
Repainting your home can make a huge difference to the value of your home, if you do it correctly. If you are still unsure as to which colours to choose why not have Amanda help. She can offer both internal and external colour schemes from $350 per scheme. Good luck!
