Amazing Creative Events For Youth In 2013

The YMCA’s Raise up Programme is constructing four amazing creative events for youth in 2013. No matter what art form, if you are creative then there is an event for you!

There is a mountain of amazing teenage artists on the North Shore. At a time when employment is difficult for teenagers, we have created an art exhibition to support our young aspiring artists. Artistry is an art exhibition where the public can purchase art through silent auction. There will be live musical and dance performances, with drinks and food. Come and support our local artists, and pick up some amazing art for reasonable price! The date is Sunday 30th June 10 – 12.30pm.

Walk the Line

Our annual young designers fashion show at New Zealand Fashion Week is running full steam ahead! This year up to 60 designers will be entering garments into categories such as Kiwiana, Rockin the Paper Frock, Twilight in Paris and ‘fluronerd’ Ravers. This is a massive opportunity for teenagers to be able to say they have shown a design at New Zealand Fashion Week. This year the show is on Saturday 7th September, we’re looking forward to it!

A new event this year, 12 musician/songwriters will be chosen for a very special 12-week mentoring programme. The lucky 12 will further their skills in song-writing by pushing their boundaries and learning music choreographic skills. Afterwards, they will create a 12-track album and perform this live at The Vic in Devonport on Thursday 22nd August. Mentoring workshops are on Mondays 4.30 – 6.30 and start in May.

For aspiring dancers, this will be another huge opportunity. 20-25 dancers will be spending term 2 and 3 learning about choreography in a new and challenging way. Over this time we will be creating our own show that will be performed as a part of the tempo dance festival on October.

For information on all of these events you can email or checkout our Facebook page “Raise up North Shore”. Registrations for all four events are due in May.
