Devonport Community News - This March

We are spoilt for choice of events this month in Devonport with activities on practically every weekend!

Our annual free Kids Athletics programme is underway, with two more sessions scheduled in March on the 6th and 13th, from 4-6pm at the Vauxhall Reserve rugby grounds.  Primary and intermediate aged kids can come along and have a go at high jump, long jump, shot put, running races and more.

On Sunday the 3rd of March is the Devonport Community Treasure Hunt, this year with a nautical theme.  It is a great way for children and their caregivers to spend some quality time together, exploring the community and learning something you may not have known about before.  Registration is free and will be held at Windsor Reserve Devonport from 10am.  The Treasure Hunt finishes up at the Devonport History Museum at Mt Cambria Reserve with a sausage sizzle and drinks, plus there will be an art exhibition at the museum with tea and coffee for sale.

Summer Fun Preschool play mornings at Windsor Reserve are also still running – every Tuesday from 9:30am to 11am.  If you haven’t been before, you will love the opportunity for your preschooler to play with a great selection of big outdoor toys while you meet new people and catch up with friends.

For all the skate boarders out there, the Scotty Brewer Skate Day is being held on Sunday 24th March, 12pm-3pm at Ngataringa Skate Park in Devonport.  The under 16s and open competitions are run by Cheapskates Takapuna for the Scotty Brewer Memorial Cup.  Cheapskates Takapuna will be running their North Shore Regionals event on the day as well.

Devonport Rotary in association with DEVROC (Devonport Riders Club) is holding its hugely popular Bikes, BBQ and the Blues Motorcycle Rally at Fort Takapuna, Vauxhall Road on Sunday 3rd March from 11am. All funds raised from this event will be donated to The Prostate Cancer Foundation. If you come by motorcycle the entrance fee will be $15 which includes a raffle ticket for an Air New Zealand simulator session. Riders and pillions are free and public entrance will be $5 per adult (no prizes).  There will also be great entertainment, food and coffee.  For more details visit:

Four of our local schools are also running fundraising events this month; Belmont Primary has their Family Fair featuring the Mitre 10 Mega Battle of the Schools competition on Saturday 2nd of March from 1pm-6pm, Bayswater School’s Bayswater Auto Show is on Sunday 10th March from 10am-3pm, Stanley Bay School’s Giant Garage Sale is on Saturday 16th March from 8am-12noon and last but not least, Devonport School’s Fair on the Hill is on Saturday 23rd March from 12pm-6pm.

That’s all from me for now - Maria.
