Flametree Art Garden & Gallery
Elements - colour with energy
The last show by Linda McKelvie at Flametree Gallery was a sell-out so we’ve been keenly awaiting the first new work in two years from this Waiheke-based artist. Expect to see more of Linda’s trademark luminous, transparent colour.
Hand-ground pigments are swirled with liquid media and left to drip and pool over a chalk-white background creating works of great beauty with interesting surfaces. And after the giant canvases of the last show, these new works are smaller, room-friendly sizes.
Linda describes the patient months spent building her canvases up layer by layer as contemplative. “The images created through this process are the result of collaboration between the elemental qualities of the materials themselves and my actions and decisions while painting. I find the process exhilarating and often surprising.”
Elements is a solo show made up of a series of works that explore the spirit of the four primary elements, evoking the sensory qualities of solidity, fluidity, temperature and mobility.
There’s new work outdoors in the Flametree Art Garden as well, including elegant wire bullrushes that sway in the breeze and a wide selection of outdoor artworks for gardens, courtyards, wall and decks.
