YMCA launches Active Seniors Fitness Programme
The YMCA North Shore is looking towards the future in offering a very affordable option to seniors who have always wanted to join a gym but were scared off by the contracts and payment plans. The launch of the seniors’ time slot goes some way towards addressing these fears by offering affordable exercise with no ties.
There is no denying that the general population is ageing and the North Shore is in need of multiple options for seniors to keep fit and healthy in a fun environment. So the YMCA is providing an opportunity to join a gym without signing any contracts and still receive all the benefits during the seniors’ time slot, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 2pm. For $6 a visit you will get the full services offered to all members of the YMCA North Shore. These include a personalised programme, entry to our senior group exercise classes, and the use of our squash courts and table tennis table(s) on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 2pm. You can come along and enjoy a wide range of activities under one roof for one price. Of course the best thing of all is that there will be music of your era playing in the gym while you work out. Seniors, this initiative is all about you, your time, your price, your music.
Strini Naidoo, YMCA North Shore Fitness Manager said: “It’s not enough to just offer a time slot for seniors, it’s also about providing experienced, quality staff during these times.” Leading the staff team is Shirley McKain with 12 years experience in the industry. She is not quite gold medal standard but is not too far off it with two New Zealand gym instructor of the year awards under her belt. Shirley’s normal duties see her on the gym floor weekdays and instructing three of the nine senior classes run each week. She said: “The point of difference is the one stop shop philosophy. You can come in and have a wide choice of options; Tuesdays and Thursdays enjoying the gym experience, and on the other days we have a full range of seniors’ group exercise classes available for the same price.”
Come in and have a chat with Shirley and she can show you around the facility, answering any queries you may have. The YMCA over the years has been a place where family members, young and old, have come to exercise, play sport and have fun and this is an opportunity not to be missed.
