The nights are getting lighter, the water is getting warmer
- it’s time for the return of the State Beach Series.

Athletes, swimmers, paddlers, and have-a-go social fitness types are in for a treat this summer as the quintessential beach event is back for the new 2012-13 season.

Kicking off this month – the first event is on 30th October – Tuesday evenings will give Shore locals the chance to run shoulders with Olympians and quite possibly their own neighbours, as they hit the sand and sea for sporting challenges and a beach full of fun.
Event Managing Director Scott Rice said: “This is a fun, relaxed regular weekly event in North Shore residents’ own neighbourhood. It’s a great way to enjoy the beautiful Takapuna beach, the best beach
in Auckland!”

A massive prize of $20,000 is at stake in New Zealand's largest swimming event, the State New Zealand Ocean Swim Series.  Back for another exciting season, 2012-13 promises to be bigger and better than ever before with a host of new initiatives. One of these initiatives is entry to an elite 'Jetstar Super Swim Squad' for winners of the five OceanKids events. Also new are 30 minute safety sessions for all OceanKids participants.
The first of these events will be held in beautiful Paihia, on November 10 – a great reason to head up to Bay of Islands for the weekend to be part of this exciting event, which includes swim distances from 200 metres up to 3.3km.
Managing director of the event, Scott Rice said: “For families that enjoy swimming, it’s an opportunity to escape for the weekend and enjoy a fantastic part of the country.”
Proud new sponsor Jetstar, will be flying the winning boy & girl of each age category (plus family member) in OceanKids to Auckland at the end of the season for a 'Jetstar Super Swim Squad' training camp with high performance coaches and NZ rep athletes. This is a chance to give your promising young swimmer the chance to get a flying start in the world of competitive swimming.
All entrants have the chance to win a 2012 Ford Fiesta, simply by entering. And those who enter within 2 weeks of the start of the event have the chance to win a swim holiday, through the Samoa Swim Series. Free towels will be given out to all competitors, with further incentives on offer for people who purchase series passes online, including free goggles and State New Zealand Ocean Swim baseball caps (while stocks last).
The iconic Harbour Crossing, now in its ninth year, is second stop on the Series this year and will take place on 2 December 2012. Scott added: “This is one for the competent swimmers who want to cross one off the bucket list!”
