ARTFUSIONS 2012 – A spectacular display of wonderful art (September 14-16)

Carmel College ArtFusions started in 1997 when an innovative group of parents gathered to organise a fundraiser that would stand out from the rest. With many of them having a true love of art they decided that an art exhibition and sale was the way to go. Since then the exhibition has grown to be the success that it is today. Many of those innovative parents have moved on but their legacy has continued with an art exhibition to rival the best of art galleries being run every year to fundraise for the benefit of the girls at Carmel College.
Once again the Art Committee have searched the country to find interesting work, giving you access to a wide variety of high quality original artwork that you can have first option to view on the Friday evening. Whether you prefer abstract or landscape, painting or sculpture, art for your home or business space, you will find it here. Our outdoor art display is always a favourite (even in the rain).
Throughout the weekend the café will be open and we will have a number of artists in residence who will create pieces of art while you watch.  It’s an experience not to be missed.
If you are interested in supporting the school by sponsoring the event we would love to hear from you. There are packages that are available from as little as $250 and these offer the opportunity to profile your business and receive tickets to the preview evening on the Friday – a great way to entertain business colleagues or friends. For sponsorship please contact Louise Wright on 4801088 or
The weekend will be a reflection of the vital and energetic creative culture of Carmel College – it will be a spectacular display of wonderful art. We hope you can join us and the thousands of other attendees, at this our 16th year of ArtFusions.

Kiwi Sisters Share Lunch With International Students

The girls involved in the Kiwi Sister Programme enjoyed a shared lunch recently with their Kiwi and International sisters.

International Students are an important part of the school community at Carmel College and they are invited to be part of a Kiwi Sisters Programme.
Each year, Carmel’s domestic students are invited to become a Kiwi Sister and are 'buddied' with an International student. The programme gives the International Students the opportunity to experience the 'Kiwi' culture and a greater insight into life at Carmel College while their Kiwi Sisters gain an understanding of the rich and diverse cultures they represent at Carmel College.
The programme is a practical way of building leadership opportunities and maintaining the strong community spirit found at Carmel College. It is also encouraging to see the strong and lasting friendships that are forged by the Kiwi Sisters Programme.
This programme helps to build a caring community at Carmel College, as well as helping new students adjust to our lifestyle and the Kiwi way.

Great showing by Carmel in Cross Country

The rain came on the day of the recent North Harbour Zone Secondary Schools Cross Country but this didn’t affect Carmel competitors who ran with pride.

It was one of the largest teams that Carmel has entered in this event as the enthusiasm of the students this year for school cross country was very high.
22 girls were entered with half of this number placing in the top 15 of each grade.
Grace Mason came third in the Senior Division, Jamie Eichmann came ninth in the Junior Division and Hannah Lynch won the Intermediate Division. These girls have all qualified for the Auckland Cross Country Championships along with other strong competitors, Dayna Vautier Jaimee McNab, Alisha Geurts, Sam MacDonald, Ruby Harris, Olivia Simmonds, Hanah Sillick, Aleidje Stroomer and Madison Turkington.
The Intermediate girls also won the three-man and the six-man team competitions.
