OPTOMETRY & EYEWEAR with Melissa Hay, Visique Milford
We go further to help you see more
Our monthly OPTOMETRY & EYEWEAR column is provided by Melissa Hay, the owner of Visique Milford Optometrists. Melissa studied optometry for five years at the Auckland University School of Medicine and completed a Bachelor of Optometry (with Honours). Her qualifications also allow her to test the eyesight of pilots (CCA Accred.) and to write prescriptions (Oc.Cert.Pharm.).
Here at Visique Milford Optometrists we offer the most comprehensive eye tests and advice tailored to your needs. I know that no two eyes are the same, and nor are any two people the same as each other. This is why I take the time to tailor your eye care to you and not just ‘process’ you as if you were an order at a fast food restaurant!
So what does this mean? This morning I had an octogenarian visit who was developing cataracts so it is important to deal with this situation with care and kindness – no one wants to face an eye operation, no matter how safe it might be. Next, I examined a four year old who needed her first glasses. At this stage tailoring her care is as much about her parent’s desires and questions – but this still requires a different approach, requiring honesty and giving a clear understanding of the girl’s needs in the future.
We are constantly investing in continuing education to maintain our professional excellence and using the latest technology with the highest quality products. We have new equipment to help us look further into your eyes which helps us make an accurate diagnosis. Amongst our latest technology is a camera to help us record your retina, and peripheral vision testing machines which can pick up glaucoma earlier than ever before. The health of your eyes and the quality of your vision are always our top priority.
